Committee Member Travel Reimbursement Policy
The WHOI Academic Programs Office will pay reasonable costs* for one outside member to attend the thesis proposal defense and the thesis defense. It is recommended that students keep in touch with these members between visits using email, telephone, videoconferencing or interacting with them at professional meetings.
- The committee member should make his/her own travel arrangements and ask for the WHOI rate (if staying in Woods Hole/Falmouth) or the MIT rate (if staying in Cambridge) at local hotels.
- The committee member should complete a travel expense voucher with original receipts indicating the amount and method of payment (visa, MC, etc.). The voucher can be sent to WHOI Academic Programs Office, MS #31, Woods Hole, MA 02543.
* Reasonable costs consist of airfare (or mileage if driving), one to two nights' lodging (depending upon distance traveled), per diem for meals, and transportation to and from airports.
