Application Fee Waiver

The Office of Graduate Education offers fee waivers to eligible applicants, which include:

  • US. Citizens and U.S. Permanent Residents who:
    • demonstrate financial hardship,
    • are current or former members of the U.S. Armed Forces, or
    • have participated in select graduate research preparation programs
  • International students who are attending a US college or university at the time of the waiver request and have participated in select graduate research preparation programs.

If you meet these criteria and wish to request a fee waiver from MIT’s OGE, you must do so by November 17.  For more information about eligibility requirements and instructions for requesting a waiver, please visit the Application Fee Waiver page on the OGE website.

Please note, fee waivers may only be requested once an application has been started; the link to the request form can only be accessed through an application to the MIT-WHOI Joint Program.

A very limited number of fee waivers are available to applicants facing financial hardship who do not meet the OGE’s eligibility criteria. Preference will be given to economically disadvantaged international applicants who have identified a potential advisor. Interested applicants may submit inquiries by November 17 to jp-info@mit.edu, including the potential advisor(s) you have identified, and a brief description of reason for your request.

The application fee waiver is good for a single academic year only; applications reactivated in future academic years will require new fee waivers.
